REPORT TO THE GENERAL PURPOSE AND ADMINISTRATION COMMITTEE MEETING
OF DECEMBER 5, 1983.
REPORT NO. : TR-83-67
SUBJECT: CLARKE MUSEUM 1982 DEFICIT
RECOMMENDATION:
It is respectfully recommended:
1. That this report be received; and
2. That the Clarke Museum Board be requested to fund
the 1982 deficit of $3,387.00 by the November 1,
1985; and further
3. That the Clarke Museum Board remit five equal
payments to the Town of Newcastle on a semi-annual
basis commencing on November 1, 1983 in the amount
of $677.40 in order to retire the debt.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENT:
Staff received a verbal request and, subsequently, a
letter of request from the Clarke Museum Board with regard to the
discharging of the 1982 deficit. (letter attached)
Staff can not agree with the request as represented in
the letter dated September 6, 1983 but have suggested another
repayment schedule which may be acceptable. In the opinion of
staff, it would be inappropriate to extend the repayment term
beyond the term of this Council and therefore an alternative
schedule has been suggested.

Dear Mrs . Campbell :
Re : Deficit repayment
Further to your letter dated June 10, 19839 indicating
a deficit balance of 83 ,387.00 as at the end of the fiscal
year 1982 , it is the wish of the Clarke Museum and Archives
Board, that this indebtedness be scheduled for payment over
the years 1984, 1985 , and 1986 in equal instalments .
The tentative budget for the Museum for the yenr 1.984
includes qn amount of Q1,000. to be paid on the indebtedness
and the balanee to be paid in equal or larger payments over
the next two Years , 19P5 and 1986, until the indebtedness
is liquidated. In any event it is the intention of the Clarke
Museum and Archives Board to retire the debt by the end of
the year 1986.
We trust this arrangement will meet with your approval.
