SUBJECT: TENDER T83-15, FIRE DEPT. 1500 GAL. TANKER TRUCK

RECOMMENDATION
t is respectfully recommended:
1 . that this report be received and
2. that GMC Truck Centre, Toronto, Ont. , with a total bid in the amount
of $21,438.00 being the lowest responsible bidder of the Tender
T83-15 , Section A be awarded the contract to supply one 34 000 G.V.W.
Cab and Chassis as required by the Town of Newcastle Fire Dept. ; and
3. that Mobile Tank Industries (1981 ) , Agincourt, Ont. , with a total
bid in the amount $22,959.00 being the lowest responsible bidder
of Tender T83-15, Section B, be awarded the contract to supply and
install one 1 500 gal . -lank, Compartments , Pump, Lines and Ac-
cessories as required by the Town of Newcastle Fire Dept. ; and
4. that the $40,000.00 be provided from the 1983 Fire Dept. Capital
Equipment budget and $4,397.00 be provided from the Vehicle
Repair Account.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENT
Tenders were publicly advertised and called for the supply and delivery of one 1984
34 000 G.V.W. Cab and Chassis (Section A) and the supply and installation of a 1 500
gal . Tank, Compartments, Pumps , Lines and Accessories (Section B) as required by
the Fire Dept.
Tenders were received and tabulated in accordance with Schedule "A" attached.
Funds provided in the 1983 budget for the tanker totalled $40,000.00 In addition
$12,000.00 was provided from the repairs of a vehicle at the Orono Firehall . It is
the professional opinion of the Fire Department that the first priority must be given
to the acquisition of new equipment when a cash shortage occurs. Therefore, the Fire
Department requests that the new equipment be purchased and the cost overun be drawn

from the repair account.
It remains the intention of the Fire Department to have the vehicle to be repaired ,
inspected and a detailed quotation given on the advisability of its repair, expec-
ted life expectancy of the repair and costs. If the results of the inspection and
quotation are favourable, the repairs will proceed.
After review and analysis of the tender by the Fire Dept. and Purchasing staff,
it was agreed that the tenders be awarded to GMC Truck Centre and Mobile Tank
Industries respectfully for the cab and chassis and the 1 ,500 gal . tank as tendered.
