REPORT TO THE GENERAL PURPOSE AND ADMINISTRATION COMMITTEE MEETING
HELD ON SEPTEMBER 6, 1983.

SUBJECT: SELF-INSURED LOSSES RESERVE
RECOMMENDATION:
It is respectfully recommended:
1 . That this report be received; and
2. That the Fire Department's loss of a portable radio valued at
approximately $1 ,100.00, be funded from the Self-Insured Losses
Reserve; and
3. That Solina Community Hall Board repairs and replacement costs
due to a breakin on June 20th, 1983, be reimbursed to a maximum
of $700.00 from the Self-Insured Losses Reserve upon submission
of the actual costs and related invoices.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS:
The loss which occured in the Fire Department occured at the Courtice Fire
Hall and the equipment was removed from Truck 4-7. The Deputy-Fire Chief
reported no signs of a breakin.
The radio was noticed missing during a training night on June 21st, 1983
at approximately 20:15 hours. The radio had been checked by the Deputy-
Fire Chief on June 17, 1983 and one of the volunteer firefighters noted that
both radios were in the hall on June 18th, 1983. Durham Regional Police are
still following up on this matter, but as of August 10th, 1983, the unit had
not be recovered.
The Fire Department require the piece of equipment and request that it be
replaced through the Self-Insured Losses Reserve.

Self-Insured Losses Reserve
On June 18th, 1983, the Solina Community Hall was entered by force and
various doors and windows forced open or broken. Repairs required included
two doors for the library, three door jams and trims, basement window screen,
four cupboard doors and strong box.
The Board has requested reimbursement for these expenses. The Board will
supply all actual costs and invoices to support this claim.
The Self-Insured Losses Reserve presently has a balance of $25,043.31 .
