TR-83-28 SUBJECT: NEWCASTLE ARENA MANAGEMENT BOARD RECOMMENDATION: It is respectfully recommended: 1. That this report be received for information; and 2. That the Newcastle Arena Management Board be sent a copy of this report and advised of the decision of the Council on this matter. BACKGROUND AND COMMENT: Subsequent to Resolution C-172-83: Moved by Councillor Taylor, seconded by Councillor Hamre THAT the correspondence from R. Hope, Chairman of the Newcastle Arena Management Board, requesting a grant for restoration work at the Arena, be referred to the Treasurer for review and report to the General Purpose and Administration Committee. Staff wrote to the Board for futher clarification of the request, (Letter dated March 22nd, 1983 - attached). In a letter dated April 21st, 1983 the Board has replied stating the requirements of the proposed work program. (Letter attached) The Deputy Director of Community Services has co-ordinated the work program for the Public Property and Building Renovation Project sponsored through the Canada Ontario Employment Program. The funding for this project provides only for labour and benefit costs with the Municipality or participating Board meeting material costs. At this time, all manhours available under this program have been allocated to previously designated work sites. Community Services' staff will be closely monitoring the progress of the various projects and by late July' may be able to reallocate some manhours to the Newcastle Arena Management Board's request. . . ./2 (41 IV _ 2 _ TR-83-28 May 2, 1983. Newcastle Arena Management Board The number of manhours requested represents a substantial block of time (5 men for 5 weeks @ 40 hours per week). From the work program which already is in place, staff are sure that we could not accomodate the full request from any time savings which might occur. In conclusion, staff will place this project on the list of projects to be considered, and if manhours are availabe to be allocated to it later in the summer, we will take the necessary steps to advise the Board. i Respectfully submitted, 6i4iryn A.
