Special Handout Report for Council

SUBJECT: TENDER T83-11, NEWCASTLE CONNECTING LINK
RECOMMENDATION:
It is respectfully recommended:
1. that this report be received; and
2, that Dagmar Construction Ltd. , Markham, Ontario with a total bid in
the amount of $678,414.62 being the lowest responsible bidder meeting
all terms, conditions and specifications of Tender T83-11 be awarded
the contract to reconstruct King St, in Newcastle as required by the
Town of Newcastle; and
3, that the funds expended be provided from within the budget allotment
for the Newcastle Connecting Link #7205-0509-00900-X-5
BACKGROUND AND COMMENT
Tenders were publicly advertised and called for the reconstruction of
King St, in Newcastle as required by the Dept, of Public Works.
Tenders were received and tabulated as per Schedule "A" attached.
After review and analysis of the tenders and recognizing that the low
bidder was successful with the reconstruction of King St, in Bowmanville, it was
mutually concluded by the Consulting Engineer, Public Works and Purchasing that
Dagmar Construction be awarded the contract for the reconstruction of King St. ,
Newcastle.

The cost of the project, with reference to the construction costs, is
below the budgeted amounts and the engineering estimates.

SUBJECT; TENDER AWARD FOR NEWCASTLE VILLAGE CONNECTING LINK
The construction by-law for the above mentioned project was
approved only on June 29, 1983, due to processing time
required by the Ministry of Transportation and
Communications (M.T.C. ). As a result, our first advertising
date was delayed and the date of closing will change from
July 19th to July 21st. This will in turn negate the
possibility of a report being included in Council 's Agenda
of July 25th.
To make the process as painless as possible, I propose the
following: At the General Purpose and Administration
Committee Meeting on July 4th, I will advise Members of
Council of the delays and that they should be prepared for a
handout report on July 25th. Dennis, you, jointly with Don
Bourne, can prepare the report for handout, review it with
�'� Dave Gray, and if necessary, arrange to have Don Bourne at
83 the Council Meeting.
RDav-e, I would request that on the Council Agenda for the
y 25th Meeting, you indicate that there will be a handout
ort on the Tenders for Reconstruction of the Connecting('� nk.
I think following the above procedure will facilitate
matters for all involved.
