SUB.ECT: TENDER NW91-36, GRAVEL CRUSHING AND HAULING
RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and
Administration Committee recommend to Council the following:
1 . THAT Report TR-96-91 be received;
2 . THAT Robert E. Young Construction Ltd. , Ennismore,
Ontario, with a total bid in the amount of $98,386 . 50
being the lowest responsible bidder meeting all terms,
conditions and specifications of Tender NW91-36, be
awarded the contract to provide Gravel Crushing and
Hauling, as required by the Town of Newcastle;
3 . THAT the funds expended be provided from the approved
1991 Public Works Road Maintenance and Construction
budget; and
4 . THAT the above recommendations be approved FORTHWITH.
BACKGROUND AND COMIMNT:
Tenders were publicly advertised in four (4) local papers and
called for the Gravel Crushing and Hauling contract as required
by the Department of Public Works . The work consists of gravel
crushing and hauling. In addition, gravel will be stockpiled,
used for resurfacing projects, shoulder maintenance and will be
allocated for numerous requirements .

Subsequently, tenders were received and tabulated as follows

The total funds required for Tender NW91-36, Gravel Crushing and
Hauling are included in the Department of Public Works Gravel Patching
and Resurfacing account, as well as various other construction
accounts, from which there are adequate funds available.
The Treasurer has reviewed the funding requirements and concurs with
the recommendation. Queries with respect to department needs,
specifications, etc . , should be referred to the Director of Public
Works .
The total bid price represents an approximate thirty-five percent
(35%) decrease over the previous year.
As the required completion date for this contract is December 31,
1991, a forthwith approval is requested.
After review and analysis of the tenders by Public Works and
Purchasing staff, it was agreed that Robert E. Young Construction
Ltd. , be awarded the contract to provide Gravel Crushing and Hauling
as required by the Town of Newcastle Public Works Department. The
subject firm has worked with satisfaction for the Town of Newcastle in
recent years .
