ACT: TENDER NW91-18, VISUAL ARTS CENTRE RENOVATIONS
RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and
Administration Committee recommend to Council the following:
1. That Report TR-42-91 be received;
2 . That Veenstra Construction Ltd. , Bowmanville, Ontario,
with a bid in the amount of $13,906 . 00 being the lowest
responsible bidder meeting all terms, conditions and
specifications of Tender NW91-18, be awarded the
contract for the Visual Arts Centre Renovations; and
3 . That the funds be drawn from the 1991 approved
Community Services Capital budget, Account
#7029-00003-0501.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENT:
Tenders were issued and publicly advertised in all four (4) area
newspapers for the Renovations of the Visual Arts Centre, as
required by the Department of Community Services .

Subsequently, tenders were received and tabulated as follows:

The required funds will be drawn from the approved 1991 Community
Services Budget, Account #7029-00003-0501 and are well within the
$45,000. 00 allocated for this project.
The Treasurer has reviewed the funding requirements and concurs
with the recommendation. Queries with respect to department
needs, specifications, etc . , should be referred to the Director
of Community Services .
After further review and analysis of the bids by Purchasing and
Community Services, it was mutually agreed that the low bidder,
Veenstra Construction Ltd. , Bowmanville, Ontario, be recommended
for the contract for the renovations at the Visual Arts Centre.
The subject firm have not previously performed for the Town of
Newcastle, however, the references provided have been contacted
and each maintains that excellent service was provided.
