The high bid prices are attributed to; winter construction, additional paving required, a busy construction season and the underestimating of the project on the part of the consultant. The low bidder has previously performed satisfactorily for the Town of Newcastle. The Treasurer has reviewed the funding requirements and concurs with the recommendation. Queries with respect to department needs, specifications, etc . , should be referred to the Fire Chief. After further review and analysis of the bids by the Fire Chief, Phillips Barratt Kaiser and Purchasing, it was mutually agreed that the low bidder, Gerr Construction, Bowmanville, Ontario, be recommended for the contract for the Construction of the Northern Fire Station.
