RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and
Administration Committee recommend to Council the following:
1. That Report TR-98-89 be received;
2 . That Horner Bros . Fence, Cobourg, Ontario, with a total
bid of $22,201. 00, being the lowest responsible bidder
meeting all terms, conditions and specifications of
Tender T89-36, be awarded the contract to supply and
install Chain Link Fencing, as required by the Town of
Newcastle; and
3. That $15,000.00 be drawn from the approved Public Works
Capital Budget Account #7212-89001-0261 and that
$ 7,201 . 00 be drawn from the Building Maintenance
Account #7212-00412--249 .
BACKGROUND AND COMMENT:
A tender was publicly advertised in the four (4) local papers and
invited for the supply and installation of Chain Link Fence at

the Public Works Depot, Taunton Road, Hampton, Ontario, as
required by the Department of Public Works .
Subsequently, tenders were received and tabulated as follows:

Brampton, Ontario
** amended tender to include sliding gate as specified in
tender documents
Funds in the amount of $15,000. 00 will be drawn from the
approved Public Works Capital Budget Account #7212-89001-0261
and $ 7,201. 00 will be drawn from the Public Works Building
Maintenance Account #7212-00412-0249 . The budget amount for
this project is $15,000 . 00, as listed in the Capital Budget, on
page 39, item #16 . The additional funds required are largely
due to the requirement of a thirty foot ( 301 ) single slide gate
which was not included in the original estimate.
The Treasurer has reviewed the funding requirements and
concurs with the recommendation. Queries with respect to
department needs, specifications, etc . , should be referred to the
Director of Public Works.
After review and analysis of the bids by both Purchasing and
Public Works, it was mutually agreed that the low bid from Horner

Bros . Fence, Cobourg, Ontario, be recommended for the tender
award for the supply and installation of Chain Link Fencing
as required by the Department of Public Works . The subject
firm have previously performed satisfactorily for the
Town of Newcastle.
