HomeMy WebLinkAboutTR-70-89 TOWN OF NEWCASTLE J REPORT Res. # By-Law # MEETING: GENERAL PURPOSE AND ADMINISTRATION COMMITTEE DATE: July 17, 1989 REPORT #: TR-70-89 FILE #: SUBJECT: TENDER T89-24, SUPPLY AND INSTALLATION OF SNOW PLOW HARNESS, PLOWS AND WINGS RECOMMENDATIONS: It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and Administration Committee recommend to Council the following: 1. That Report TR-701-89, be received; 2. That London Machinery, London, Ontario, with a total bid of $13,1401.36, being the lowest responsible bidder meeting all terms, conditions and specifications of Tender T89-24, be awarded the contract to supply Snow Plow Equipment to one (1) only Cab and Chassis as provided by the Town of Newcastle; and 3. That the funds be drawn from the approved 1989 Public Works Fleet Account. BACKGROUND AND COMMENT: A Tender was publicly advertised and invited for the supply and installation of Snow Plow Equipment, Plows and Wings, as required by the Department of Public Works. Subsequently, tenders were received and tabulated as follows: Bidder Bid Amount Installation London Machinery $ 13,140.36 $ 3,2401.0101 London, Ontario Viking Cives $ 13,932.00 $ 4,104.00 Mount Forest, Ontario Elston Industries $ 14,040.00 $ 1,242.00 Toronto, Ontario Frink Canada $ 18,174.24 $ 2,257.20 Cambridge, Ontario 724 Page - 2 - TR-70-89 TENDER T89-24, SUPPLY AND INSTALLATION OF SNOW PLOW HARNESS, PLOWS AND WINGS As part of the General Conditions of this tender, the Town of Newcastle reserved the right to include installation with the award of this tender or to make alternate installation arrangements. It is estimated that the cost for Town of Newcastle staff to install this equipment is $ 2,650.00. This equipment will be installed on one (1) only new 50,000 G.V.W. Cab and Chassis, which is currently on order. Delivery of this cab and chassis is scheduled for approximately November 30, 1989. The required funds will be drawn from the approved 1989 Public Works Fleet Account from which there are adequate funds available. This is reflected in the Public Works Capital Budget, page 53, Item #5, as a 1976 Ford Dump Truck to be replaced. The budgeted cost on this equipment is $110,000.00; a portion of which is covered by Tender T89-24. The additional equipment will be added through subsequent tenders, in accordance with the budgeted amount. The Treasurer has reviewed the funding requirements and concurs with the recommendation. Queries with respect to department needs, specifications, etc. should be referred to the Director of Public Works. After review of the bids by Purchasing and Public Works, it was mutually agreed that the bid from London Machinery, London, Ontario, be recommended for the tender award, and that the equipment be installed by Town of Newcastle staff. London Machinery is a reputable company and have performed satisfactorily for the Town of Newcastle in past years.
