RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and
Administrative Committee recommend to Council the following:
1. That Report TR-46-89 be received; and
2. That the atthed 1989 information Bulleti�/be approved.

Attached, please find a draft of the 1989 information bulletin to be
inserted in the final 1989 tax bills as required by the Municipal Act,
R.S.O. 1980, Section 369(3) .

Enclosed is your final tax bill for 1989. This bill is payable at Newcastle Town
Hall, or at most chartered bank branches and trust companies within the Region of
Durham and the Town of Port Hope, in two instalments due on June 23, 1989 and
September 22, 1989. To avoid penalty charges, please pay your property taxes
promptly.
If this property has been sold please forward this bill to the new owner, or return
it to this office.
If a receipt is required, return the entire bill with the payment, together with a
stamped, self addressed envelope to the Town Hall, 40 Temperance Street, Bowmanville
L1C 3A6.
Prior year's taxes outstanding are payable only at the Town Hall, 40 Temperance St.
Bowmanville.

YOUR 1989 TAX DOLLARS
$.21 of your Property Tax Dollar is spent by the Town of Newcastle; $.19 by
the Region of Durham and $.60 by the Boards of Education.
Provincial Legislation directs that the Town collect taxes approved by the Boards of
Education and the Region of Durham.
The 1989 average assessed value in the Town of Newcastle is approximately $3,350.
Therefore the average 1989 taxes, based on the mill rate will be $1,878 for
public school purposes as opposed to $1,558 in 1988.
SCHOOL BOARDS
Through the school board's tax dollars (60%) , residents of the Town of Newcastle are
provided with education facilities and associated administrative services.

REGION OF DURHAM
The Regional tax share (19%) supports the following services: policing, public
health, regional roads, planning, industrial development, conservation authorities
and all social services.
Water and sewer services are paid for totally by benefiting property owners.
TOWN OF NEWCASTLE
The local municipal portion of your taxes (21%) supports administration, fire
protection, by-law enforcement, animal control, building inspection, municipal
roads, cemeteries, recreation, cultural services, libraries, museums and local
planning services. Taxpayers who have street lights and/or garbage collection are
assessed an additional amount.
