HomeMy WebLinkAboutTR-45-89 TOWN OF NEWCASTLE REPORT File # !< , Res. # By-Law # MEETING: GENERAL PURPOSE AND ADMINISTRATION COMMITTEE DATE: May 15, 1989 REPORT #: TR-45-89 FILE #: SUBJECT: TENDER T89-181 FIRE FIGHTER BUNKER SUITS RECOMMENDATIONS: It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and Administration Committee recommend to Council the following: 1. That this report be received; and 2. That Resqtech Systems Inc., Woodstock, Ontario, with a total bid price of $22,005.00, being the lowest responsible bidder meeting all terms, conditions and specifications of Tender T89-18, be awarded the contract to supply twenty-five (25) Fire Fighter Bunker Suits as required by the Town of Newcastle Fire Department; and 3. That the required funds be drawn from the Fire Department approved Capital Budget, Account #7102-01001011-0520. BACKGROUND AND COMMENT: A tender was publicly advertised and invited for the supply and delivery of twenty-five (25) Fire Fighter Bunker Suits, as required by the Fire Department. 722 Page - 2 - TR-45-89 TENDER T89-181 FIRE FIGHTER BUNKER SUITS Subsequently, tenders were received and tabulated as follows: Bidder Total Bid Amount Class "A" Enterprize Inc. $ 201,466.001 Madoc, Ontario Resqtech Systems Inc. $ 22,0015.00 Woodstock, Ontario Starfield Safetywear Mfg. Co. $ 25,4011.60 Toronto, Ontario C.E. Hickey & Sons Co. Ltd. $ 26,7301.00 Hamilton, Ontario Safety Supply Canada $ 28,888.65 Richmond Hill, Ontario Note: Provincial Sales Tax is included in all of the above prices. Upon review of the tenders, it was revealed that the Bunker Suits proposed by the low bidder, do not meet the tender specifications in that they are made of a Nomex material outer shell with a wool liner. The tender specified P.B.I. High Strength Aramid lined with Gortex material (or approved equivalents) . The Acting Fire Chief has advised that the Nomex material is not acceptable. The required funds are to be drawn from the approved Fire Department Capital Budget, Account #7102-010101011-01520 and are well within the budgeted amount of $27,0100.001. The Treasurer has reviewed the funding requirements and concurs with the recommendation. Queries with respect to department needs, specifications, etc. should be referred to the Acting Fire Chief. 723 Page - 3 - TR-45-89 TENDER T89-181 FIRE FIGHTER BUNKER SUITS After further review and analysis of the bids by both Purchasing and the Fire Department, it was agreed that Resqtech Systems Inc., Woodstock, Ontario, be recommended for the contract award of Tender T89-18, to supply the Town of Newcastle Fire Department with twenty-five (25) Fire Fighter Bunker Suits.
