SUBJECT: TENDER T88-20, ONE (1) 75 FOOT AERIAL LADDER C/W 1050 GPM PUMP
RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and Administration
Committee recommend to Council the following:
1. That this report be received; and
2. That Superior Emergency Equipment Limited, Red Deer, Alberta, with a
total bid in the amount of $344,900.00, being the lowest responsible
bidder meeting all terms, conditions and specifications of Tender
T88-20, be awarded the contract, forthwith, for the supply and
delivery of a 1988 75 Foot Aerial Ladder c/w 1050 GPM Pump, as
required by the Fire Department; and
3. That funds in the amount of $344,900.00 be drawn from the approved
1988 Fire Department Capital Budget, Account #7102-00001-0504.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENT:
A tender was publicly advertised and invited for the supply and delivery of a
1988 75 Foot Aerial Ladder c/w 1050 GPM Pump, as required by the Fire
Department.

Subsequently, tenders were received and tabulated as follows:

Pierre Thibault Fire Trucks Inc. $356,505.00 7 months
Pierreville, Quebec
A third bid from Almonte Fire Trucks Ltd., Almonte, Ontario, was returned unopened,
as it was received past the closing time and date.
The low bidder, Superior Emergency Equipment Limited supplied the Triple Combination
Pumper ordered by the Town of Newcastle in 1987, and it has proven to be a reliable
vehicle of exceptional quality and workmanship.
The total funds required are to be drawn from the 1988 Fire Department Capital
Budget, Account #7102-000011-0504 and are within the budget amount of $350,0001.00.
The Treasurer has reviewed the funding requirements and concurs with the
recommendation. Queries with respect to department needs, specifications, etc.
should be referred to the Fire Chief. Due to the two (2) month delivery time, it
is requested that the contract be approved forthwith.
After further review and analysis of the bids by the Fire Department and
Purchasing, it was mutually agreed that the low bidder, Superior Emergency
Equipment Limited, Red Deer, Alberta, be recommended for the contract award for
the supply and delivery of one (1) 75 Foot Aerial Ladder c/w 1050 GPM Pump, as
required by the Town of Newcastle Fire Department.
