SUBJECT:: Pani.c Bar Hardware for Exterior Exit Doors Main
Floor Police and Fire Building, 132 Church Street,
Bowmanville
RECOMMENDATIONS:
It i.s respectfully recommended:
1. THAT this report be received, and;
2. THAT panic-bar hardware be installed on the two
exterior, side exit doors from the Police and Fire
Building (Court rooms 1 and 2 offices - stairwell
exit doors) .
3. AND further that they be of the panic-bar
vertical rods, centre mullion type at $1,225 per pair
of doors and that the expenditure be charged to
account 97023-222-000.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS:
Further to receiving complaints from concerned citizens
and groups which have been unable to leave the building
after attending evening meetings in court rooms one and
two, due to locked exterior doors.
Under the Ontario Building Code and National Fire Code
subsection 2.7.2 Exit Door Hardware 2.7.2.2, devices
on any required exit door shall be such that the door
may be readily opened from the inside without the
use of keys, when a force of not more than 20 lbs. is
applied. 1

I have had a quick look at this, and think we should go
ahead as they recommend. I think we should go through
Committee with a report as this is a non-budget matter.
Could you please prepare a report with a brief history of
the Police department ' s request and an indication of which
account it would come out of.

pair of aluminum doors concealed vertical rod panic devices on each door.

3 . To supply and install complete with all equipment and materials a new
mortice lock with interior latch paddle device which allows exit only
function when locked, but requires that one of the pair of doors remain
inactive for general use. This device does not completely comply with
-the regulations but is the most economical answer to the problem.

Enclosed we have provided photocopies of the above units. Our recommend-
-Ovation for the doors is that the single door receive the panic device
( price 1 ) and that the remaining doors receive the paddle device.
