It is respectfully recommended. 1) THAT thi.s report be received for information. BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS: Fire Prevention Week is 365 days long. During the week of October 3-9 gives the Fire Departments throughout the country an opportunity to gain the attention of the general public, in preventing fires and deaths. We try to learn what we can do to reduce the incidence of the danger of fire and at this time special effort is put in those directions. We are pleased to report a very successfuly fire prevention campaign. Due to the large area of the Town of Newcastle activities are carried out throughout the month of October. The activities included inspections and fire drills held at all schools within the Town of Newcastle,(29)staff familiarization courses on the use and operation of the internal fire alarm systems and portable fire extinguisher j were held at the Memorial Hospital , (6) Nursing Homes, (3) Hotel-Motel , (1) elementary school staff (Lockharts) . 2/ V FIRE PREVENTION BEGINS WITH YOU h, Report to G.P.A. (cont'd) - 2 - November 15, 1982 Two groups of 14 girl guides are at present trying for their "Fire Helmet Badge" this course consists of 4 nights of lz hours duration which on successful completion of the course guides will receive a helmet badge and certificate. Visiting school groups, scouts and cub paks to all fire stations totalled 392 students and 47 adults. Explanations and demonstrations of the use and operation of apparatus and equipment were given to each group. Fire prevention literature was also given out to all visitors. An information and display booth was set up at the Bowmanville Mall on Thursday Friday, October 7th and 8th, 1982, from 9:00 a.m. to 9:.00 p.m. Movies and slide presentations on wood buring stove installations, kerosene heaters, fire safety and fire prevention were shown throughout both days. The display included modern respiratory breathing equipment, hose, nozzles, protective clothing and communication units. The new "Telescope" water-tower and aerial ladder was demonstrated at the east end of the parking lot, considerable interest was shown with many favourable comments on the performance and ease of handling of this unit. Firefighting personnal from all four stations assisted with the visitations, display and information booth, as well as the "Telescope" demonstration. i Fire prevention is a continuous effort to save lives and property from the ravages of fire.
