REPORT TO THE GENERAL PURPOSE AND ADMINISTRATION
COMMITTEE MEETING - OCTOBER 1 , 1984.
REPORT NO. FD 24-84.
SUBJECT: Key Safe Systems for all Town
Owned Buildings.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
RECOMMENDATION:
It is respectfully recommended:
1 . ) THAT this report be received,
2. ) THAT the General Purpose and Administration
Committee recommend to Council that Key Safe
Systems be purchased and installed on all
Town owned buildings, and
3. ) THAT any community centre or hall board that
has previously purchased a key safe be re-
imbursed with the costs associated with the
purchase and installation.

BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS
I
In the spring of 1984 the Fire Department conducted fire inspections of
all Town owned buildings and made specific recommendations and suggestions
to improve fire safety. One suggestion was the installation of a key safe
system on each building to hold the entry key for that specific building.
This reduces the liability aspect of the Fire Department when holding keys
for many businesses and premises and permits quick access to the building.
At the present time, all municipal controlled buildings have the key safe
installed and many private businesses and industries have installed the
system. Very few Community Centres or hall boards have responded to the

suggestion, possibly because of lack of funds.
I would recommend that funds be drawn from Acct. #7007-298x9, Contin-
gencies, to cover the cost of the purchase and installation of the key
safe system for the halls and community centres, (approximate total
cost is $1 ,100.00) .
Respectfully submitted,
