REPORT NO. FD-15-84 SUBJECT: Emergency Aid and Disaster Plan Co-Ordination. i RECOMMENDATION: It is respectfully recommended: THAT this report be received for information. BACKGROUND On May 28, 1984 Council adopted Resolution G.P.A. #C-324-84, which stated: "That the correspondence from Trinity United Church re Emergency Response Program be received, and referred to staff for a report." COMMENTS I Emergency aid and disaster planning for the Town of Newcastle is co-ordinated through the Canadian Red Cross Emergency Service. Mrs. Kay Forsey serves as the Red Cross chairperson and co-ordinator for the area and has acted in this capacity for a number of years. Through Mrs. Forsey, a list is drawn up scheduling church groups and agencies on a rotating basis to supply emergency ai.d, when required. The Red Cross does not work alone, but calls upon all levels of Government, community groups, service clubs and' volunteer organizations to provide assist- ance to the community or individuals, when required. Lists are supplied to the Fire Department through Mrs. Forsey outlining what organizations are on duty to provide emergency service, group leaders ' names, and phone numbers of whom to contact to start the process in motion. The co- ordinator also arranges for hot coffee and' sandwiches to be supplied to Fire- . . . .Continued FIRE�' P E I1 INS 1T H YOU 1 � 4r FD 15-84 - 2 - fighters during major fires and inclement weather. Listed are some of the churches and organizations that work with Mrs. Kay Forsey and the Red Cross.
