FD 1-84 SUBJECT: New Fire Station #3 To provide for furnishings and fixtures RECOMMENDATION: It is respectfully recommended: 1. ) THAT this report be received; 2. ) THAT the General Purpose and Administration Committee recommend to Council to provide $3500.00 in funds for furnishings and fixtures for the New Fire Station #3. BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS: The new fire station in Orono is nearing completion and arrangements are being made for the official opening. j During an earlier meeting with the Consultants, Techni.'cal, Members of Staff and Council Members of the Committee it was decided that certain items be excluded from the project tender. This would assist the project to remain within the budget and eliminate unnecessary extra cost from the consultant on specific furnishing and fixture items (tables, chairs, desks, work bench, washroom fixtures, drapes etc. ) which could be purchased and installed possibly through local business and trades- men. Stacking chairs - 30 @ $ 23.00 each 690.00 Tables - Folding legs - 4 @ $100.00 each 400.00 Desks and chairs - 2 @ $360.00 each 720.00 Filing cabinet - 1 @ $180.00 each 180.00 Paper towel dispensers - 4 @ $ 16.00 each 64.00 Soap dispensers - 3 @ $ 16.00 each 48.00 Toilet tissue dispensers - 2 @ $ 8.00 each 16.00 Washroom mirrors - 2 @ $ 40.00 each 80.00 Washroom deodorant screens - 2 @ $ 10.00 each 20.00 Waste baskets-office & washroom , 2 @ $ 50.00 each 100.00 Garbage cans - 2 @ $ 20.00 each 40.00 Fire extinguishers - 2 @ $ 45.00 each 90.00 Metal clad work bench - 1 @ $500.00 each 500.00 Misc. (mops, pails, wash hose) - $300.00 300.00 3272.00 TAX 229.04 3501.04 One major cost item has not been included, this being drapes for the meeting room, kitchen area and the office area. They are items that would have to be custom made including track installation and would require an onsite estimate. With the many various types of window coverings available consideration should possibly be given to venetion or vertical type blinds which are decorative, require little maintenance and last for many years. I would ask for imput and assistance on this matter from Council Committee members. The items listed are the required basic necessities for the building to function as a fire station.
