FD 18-85 SUBJECT: Proclamation and Display for Fire Prevention Week - October 7th - 12th. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- RECOMMENDATION: It is respectfully recommended: (1 ) THAT this report be received; (2) THAT the General Purpose and Administration Committee recommend to Council that October 7th to 12th, 1985 be proclaimed Fire Pre- vention Week in the Town of Newcastle; and (3) THAT the Fire Department be granted the use of half of the parking lot to the east of the Police and Fire Building, for dis- plays of Fire Department vehicles, equip- ment and demonstrations, from October 8th to 12th, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily. i BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS: i Fire Prevention Week is approaching once again, starting the j week of October 7th to October 12th. This year the Fire Department is proposing to hold an Open House at each Fire Station with as many members of the Department i participating as are available, on Saturday, October 12th from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Also, Fire Station #1 will be open to the public from October 8th through to the 12th from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily. I would request the use of the parking lot to the east of the Police-Fire Building for displays of Fire Continued. . . Inside Fire Station #1 , Fire Safety slides and movies will be shown as well as a free draw for various items. Fire Prevention Week's program will be in conjunction with McDonald's Restaurants Canada wide Fire Prevention theme of "Plan to Get Out Alive". This program is designed to encourage families and individuals to develop and practise an in-home family fire escape program. Mc Donald's Restaurants have ap- proached the Canadian Fire Chiefs' Association and the Ontario Fire Chiefs' Association offering support material for this worth while fire safety project, at no cost to the local Fire Departments. Fire Departments across Canada are participating. On Wednesday, October 9th there will be a National Fire Drill held. Radio and television stations across Canada will broadcast a fire alarm at 6:00 p.m. to encourage everyone to practise their family fire escape plan. The MacDonald' s "Plan to Get Out Alive" pamphlet will be distri- buted by the Fire Department, to all elementary school students within the Town of Newcastle prior to Fire Prevention Week.
