BACKGROUND & COMMENTS
The Durham Region Fire Chiefs Association is promoting Fire Safety through a poster
competition at the grade five level . The contest is held on a Municipal , then Regional
level and I would request Council ' s support, as in the past, for this contest.
Last year there was a tremendous response from schools throughout our Municipality.
The quality, workmanship, time and effort devoted to the making of the posters was an
indication of the great student and teacher interest. Last year, the winner at the
Regional level girls' category, came from our Municipality. This poster contest forms
part of our Department' s school program directed at grade five students, to help increase
fire safety awareness.
