BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS
It is my pleasure to report on the activities of Fire Prevention Week. Allschools in
the municipality (28) have had a fire drill conducted by the Fire Department, prior to
Fire Prevention Week. Evacuation times and areas of concern regarding the fire drill
were noted with written reportssent to school principals and school board offices.
Displays of vehicles and equipment were held daily at Station #1 with a total of approxi-
mately 250 school children visiting. The display at the Bowmanville Mall generated
public inquiries regarding fire safety and requests for emergency phone stickers. In
conjunction with the local Canadian Tire dealer, Mr. John Brown, a new telephone clip,
with emergency phone numbers for fire, police and ambulance, was introduced and given
out free to area residents.
I would thank members of the Department who donated their time to promoting this week of
Fire Safety and Fire Prevention.
