SLBJECT: G.P.A. RESOLUTION 755-87 - "That the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Councillor
McKnight and the Fire Chief attend a meeting of the Oshawa Fire Pro-
tection and General Purpose Committee to discuss the possibility of
sharing fire services".
RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is respectfully recommended:

BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS
Further to the above-headed resolution, Mayor Winters, Councillor McKnight and
the Fire Chief attended an Oshawa Fire Protection Committee Meeting on November
10, 1987, 1530 hrs. , at Oshawa City Hall.
The Newcastle delegation was well received by the Oshawa Committee. A brief
discussion took place regarding the feasibility of sharing fire services between
the Town of Newcastle and the Oshawa Fire Department for the Courtice area.
Also briefly discussed were existing per capita costs for fire protection in
Newcastle and Oshawa (Newcastle $20.55 vs. Oshawa $69.00) .
A resolution was passed by the Oshawa Fire Protection Committee, that Oshawa
Fire Chief Hooper meet with Chief Aldridge of Newcastle, to identify areas of
coverage, acceptable response times, when coverage would be required, level of
service requested and provide any other pertinent information Oshawa may require
to assist with their report back to the Fire Committee on proposed costs and the
feasibility of Oshawa providing this service.
