SUBJECT: FIRE PREVENTION WEEK

RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is respectfully recommended:
THAT this report be received for information.
It is Staff's pleasure to report on the activities of Fire Prevention Week.
All schools in the Municipality had a fire drill conducted by the Fire
Department, prior to Fire Prevention Week. Evacuation times and areas of
concern regarding the fire drill or fire safety were noted, with written reports
sent to school principals and school board offices.
Fire prevention lectures, fire extinguisher demonstrations and practical
training were conducted for staff at the Bowmanville Hospital.
Displays of vehicles and equipment were held daily at Station #1 with many
school groups and the public visiting the fire station. Attendance at the
Thursday and Friday evening, and Saturday morning open houses at Stations 2, 3 &
4, was disappointing, with a total of only 32 visitors.

The Fire Department thanks the following merchants for their generous donations
for the draws held at each station:
Canadian Tire Store, Bowmanville
MacGregor Hardware Store, Bowmanville
Murray Fire Equipment, Bowmanville
The Fire Department also donated a number of prizes. The prizes consisted of
fire extinguishers, smoke alarms, travel smoke alarms and emergency lights.
A list of the prize winners is attached.
I thank the members of the Fire Department, who donated their time to promoting
this week of Fire Safety and Fire Prevention.
