NEWCASTLE FIRE DEPARTMENT
His Worship Mayor John Winters
Members of Council
Ladies and Gentlemen:
The 1986 Annual Report of the Town of Newcastle Fire Department is
submitted for your review and information. The information con-
tained in this report is a summary of the activities of your Fire
Department for the year ending December 31 , 1986.
This Department responded to 593 emergency calls during the year.
There were no fire fatalities in 1986.
The estimated total fire loss for the year was $708,645, which is
an increase of $179,743 over the previous year. This increase is
partially due to escalating property values.
There were 2 ,019 fire inspections completed in 1986 dealing with
residential , commercial , industrial and assembly occupancies.
During 1986 Council approval was received to purchase a vehicle to
replace the 1979 Station Wagon, and order an additional tanker
truck. A 1986 G.M.C. Suburban utility vehicle was placed in
service in July of 1986 and the tanker is on order and expected to
be delivered in the spring of 1987.
The Department continues to investigate the cause of all fires,
both to discourage arson and as well to determine the actual
number of fires relating to any specific cause so that we can
implement the most appropriate prevention programs.
In conclusion, I would thank the members of the Department for
their dedicated support, assistance and co-operation, which is
vitally essential in providing this emergency service to the
residents of the Town of Newcastle.
The Department is grateful to the Mayor and Council for their
support throughout the year.
J. Aldridge,
Fire Chief.
