RECOMMENDATIONS:

It is respectfully recommended:
l.) THAT Fire Department Report�r18-89 be received; and
2.) THAT the General Purpose and Administration Committee recommend
to Council that October 9 - 15r 1988 be proclaimed Fire Preven-
tion Week in the Tm*u of Newcastle.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS �

Fire Prevention Week is opDcoonbiog, this year being the week of October 9
lG. The theme will be Smoke Detection Devices and their Use and it is in-
tended to inform the public about the importance of installing smoke detectors |
in their homes. |

This year, the Town of Newcastle's Fire Prevention Week program will consist of /
a display and information booth, to be located at the Bowoauville Mall and
manned by firefighters on Thursday and Friday, October 13 & 14th, from 7:00 p.m.
until 9:00 p.m. and on Saturday, October 15, 1988r from 1I:00 a.m. until 3:00 |
P.M. }\ free draw can be entered by who visits the information booth and

fills out a ballot. |
Open House will be held at Station #l, BowomxuviIle as well as at Station #4, �
Courtioe, daily from Tuesday, October lItb until Friday, October 14tb' in-
clusive, 10:08 a.m. to 3;00 p.m. �

The Town of Newcastle Fire Department will also be participating in a joint
venture with Ontario Hydro at the Darlington Nuclear Generating Station. The
Fire Department has been requested, by Darlington N.G.S., to set up an infor-
mation booth to be located in the main foyer of the administration facility.
This information booth will be manned by Fire Department personnel who will be
there to answer questions on fire prevention, as well as detection devices,
from the employees and visitors of Ontario Hydro.
The Newcastle Fire Department is looking forward to working with the staff of
the Darlington Nuclear Generating Station in promoting fire safety.
