Orono Horticultural Society's Participation in the Landscaping
SUBJECT: of Station #3, Orono,

RECOMMENDATIONS:
it is respectfully recommended:
1.) THAT Fire Department Report No. 10-88 be received for information;
2.) THAT the Orono Horticultural Society be thanked for their interest,
valued participation and plant donations; and
3.) THAT the Orono Horticultural Society be permitted to erect a small
sign, on the front lawn of Fire Station #3, noting their partici-
pation.

BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS
In the fall of last year, Mr. Mostert of the Orono Horticultural Society, was
contacted by Staff to inquire if the society would be interested in a project to
design a landscape display of plants and shrubs, to enhance the appearance of
the Orono Fire Station.
The Fire Station is an integral part of the Orono community and it was decided
that it would enhance the Station's appearance to have it landscaped. The
Horticultural Society expressed an interest in participating in the project and
funds were appropriately budgeted for in the 1988 Fire Department Budget.
The Horticultural Society designed a landscape plan, which would enhance the ap-
pearance of the station and yet be easy to maintain.

At this point in time, the Horticultural Society is in the process of planting
the trees, shrubs and flowers. It should be noted that many of the flowers
being used in the flower beds have been kindly donated by the Society.
Staff would recommend that the Orono Horticultural Society be thanked for their
time, effort and great interest given to this project and that the Society be
permitted to erect a small sign in the area of the flower beds on the lawn at
Fire Station #3, noting their contribution to the project.
