I
Notification was recently received from the Office of the Fire Marshal advising
that a two day course, February 29th and March lst, 1988, is being conducted on
Dangerous Goods Awareness. The course will be held at the Oshawa Fire Depart-
ment Headquarters Station. There are no registration fees or associated course
costs.
The course is available to the Region of Durham Fire Departments and a limited
number of spaces are available to each Municipality. We intend to send four
part-time firefighters also.

FD 2-88 - 2 -
Dangerous goods continue to play a major role in the lives of all Canadians.
Chlorine for water purification, gasoline for fuel, ammonium nitrate for fer-
tilizers are only a few examples of the types of dangerous goods being trans-
ported throughout our Municipality every day of the year.
The Fire Department is usually the initial responding agency to dangerous goods
spills or accidents. This course is intended to explain response procedures and
increase the awareness of emergency response crews to dangerous goods incidents
and should prove to be of great benefit to our Department.
Respectfully submitted, Recommended for presentation
