RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is respectfully recommended:
1.) THAT Fire Department Report 18-89 be received;
2.) THAT approval be given in principle, regarding the detailed
drawings and specifications prepared by the Town's consultant, Phillips
Barrett Kaiser Engineering Limited, and presented by Mr. Ben Sproule,
regarding the new northern fire station FORTHWITH; and
3.) THAT staff_ be authorized to call tenders, FORTHWITH, regarding the new
northern fire station on the basis of the information provided by the
Town's consultant, specifying the tender closing on November 17, 1989.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS
At the Council meeting of September 25, 1989 approval was given regarding the
conceptual drawings related to the new northern fire station, prepared by the
Town's consultant. Since that time, our consultant has virtually completed
all work related to the detailed drawings, specifications and costs with re-
spect to the facility.
Specifically, our consultant will be present at the General Purpose and Ad-
ministration Committee meeting of October 23, 1989 to provide an overview of
the detailed information. Staff has met with the consultant since the Sep-
tember 25th meeting of Council to finalize the related drawings and specifi-
cations.

If the recommendations contained in this report are approved on October 23,
1989, it is the consultant's view that the time frame for the completion of the
northern fire station, specified on September 25, 1989 can be met (i.e.- con-
struction to begin in early December 1989; construction to be completed early
in 1990) .
