(416)263-2231 I REPORT TO THE PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE MEETING OF JUNE 8, 1981. REPORT NO.: P-109--81 SUBJECT: Interpretation of Sign By-law 76-25 Definition of "Directional Signs" RECOMMENDATION: It is respectfully submitted that this Report be received for information. BACKGROUND: At the Planning and Development Committee Meeting of May 25, 1981, Committee passed the following resolution: PD-206-81 "That the Planning Director report on the interpretation of directional signs in by-law 76-25." i COMMENT: Staff have reviewed Section 18 (a) page 4 of the consolidated Sign By-law and confirm the interpretation of that section offered by the Director of Planning, at the May 25, 1981 Committee meeting. To C5/ - 2 - reiterate, a directional sign means "a ground sign or wall sign which is located on a structure or lot for the purpose of indicating an en- trance, exit, a department or an area". The sign is to be located on the property(building and/or lands) to which it pertains. If members of the Committee feel that this clause is too restrictive, then it would be appropriate to request staff to review this provision and to prepare a suitable amendment to include standards for "off-site" di- rectional signs. As there may be other amendments to the Sign By-law arising from the enforcement of the "5 year" conformity clause in By-law 76-25, staff feel it would be appropriate to undertake future possible amendments at one time.
