TENDER NW93-15, SUPPLY AND INSTALLATION OF TAIL PIPE EXHAUST
Subject: SYSTEM
Recommendations:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and
Administration Committee recommend to Council the following:
1. THAT Report TR-45-93 be received;
2 . THAT Evec Systems Inc. , Scarborough, Ontario, with a
total bid in the amount of $26,964. 00 (including
applicable taxes) , being the lowest responsible bidder
meeting all terms, conditions and specifications of
Tender NW93-15, be awarded the contract for the supply
and installation of a Tail Pipe Exhaust System at Fire
Station #1, Bowmanville; and
3 . THAT the funds be drawn from the 1993 approved
Community Services Capital budget, Account
#7023-00000-0501.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENT:
Tenders were issued and publicly advertised, for the supply and
installation of a Tail Pipe Exhaust System at Fire Station #1,
Bowmanville, as required by the Department of Community Services.

Subsequently, tenders were received and tabulated as follows:

A review of the bid from Evec Systems Inc. , Scarborough, Ontario,
revealed that the tracking system proposed was not as specified.
Evec Systems Inc. are able to provide the specified tracking
system at an additional cost of $2,568.00, which brings their
total bid to an amount of $26,964. 00 .
With respect to the bid from Tykron Inc. , Grimsby, Ontario, the
system proposed is a pneumatic assembly rather than the magnetic
assembly which had been specified. In addition, both the City of
Toronto, as well as the Edmonton Fire Department, have indicated
that they were not satisfied with the workmanship of this firm.
Although Evec Systems Inc . , Scarborough, Ontario, have only been
in business since February 1, 1993, the owner of the firm was
directly responsible for installations with both the Toronto and
Troy Fire Departments, where excellent service was received.
The required funds will be drawn from the approved 1993 Community
Services Budget, Account #7023-00000-0501 (identified on page 190
of the 1993 Draft Capital Budget) , and are within the $35,000 . 00
allocation for this project.

The Treasurer has reviewed the funding requirements and concurs
with the recommendation. Queries with respect to department
needs, specifications, etc . , should be referred to the Director
of Community Services and/or the Fire Chief.

After further review and analysis of the bids by Community
Services, the Fire Department and Purchasing, it was mutually
agreed that Evec Systems Inc. , Scarborough, Ontario, be awarded
the contract to Supply and Install the Tail Pipe Exhaust System
at Fire Station #1, Bowmanville.
