Subject: TENDER NW93-18, TREE MAINTENANCE PROGRAM
Recommendations:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and
Administration Committee recommend to Council the following:
1. THAT Report TR-48-93 be received;
2 . THAT Cross Brothers Tree Service, Whitby, Ontario, with
a total bid of $11,577 .40, being the lowest responsible
bidder meeting all terms, conditions and specifications
of Tender NW93-18, be awarded the contract for Tree
Maintenance as required by the Department of Public
Works; and
3. THAT the funds be drawn from the 1993 approved Public
Works Road Maintenance budget.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENT:
A tender was publicly advertised in three (3) local papers and
called for the supply of all necessary labour, materials and
equipment to perform the Tree Maintenance Program as required by
the Department of Public Works.

The 1991 Tree Maintenance contract was awarded to Ontario Line
Clearing Services Limited, with a total bid of $7,586 .30 . Although
the total bid price from Cross Brothers Tree Service for the 1993
contract appears to be a substantial increase over the 1991
contract price, the Tree Maintenance Work Schedule varies from year
to year in size and number of trees, the locations and the labour
involved, thereby affecting the unit prices and the overall total
bid. A Tree Maintenance contract was not issued in 1992 .
The required funds will be drawn from the 1993 approved Public
Works Road Maintenance budget and are well within the budget amount
of $55,000 .00.
The Treasurer has reviewed the funding requirements and concurs
with the recommendation. Queries with respect to department needs,
specifications, etc. , should be referred to the Director of Public
Works .

After review and analysis of the tenders by Public Works and
Purchasing staff, it was agreed that Cross Brothers Tree Service,
Whitby, Ontario, be recommended for the contract award as tendered.
The subject firm has worked with satisfaction for the Town of
Newcastle in recent years.
