QUOTATION Q94-5
For the information of Council, the Municipality of Clarington
spent approximately $24,000.00 for Electrical Services on Street
Lighting during the 1993 year.
A review of the services and equipment utilized during the 1993
contract period was conducted in order to ascertain which bid
represented the lowest overall cost to the Municipality.
Although the hourly rates for Journeyman Lineman Helper, charged by
Langley Utilities and Independent High Voltage are less than the
rate charged by George Moore Electric, the minimum charge rate and
the hourly rate for Journeyman Lineman is substantially higher. In
addition the prices quoted for the equipment provided by Langley
Utilities and Independent High Voltage do not include an operator
whereas the price provided by George Moore Electric does .
With respect to the lower material charges bid by both Langley
Utilities and Independent High Voltage, based on previous years
approximately 55% of the total annual expended funds is for parts.
The major material item for this contract is high pressure sodium
replacement lamps which for 1994 will be purchased directly by the
Municipality of Clarington from L.A.S. (a company formed by the
Association of Municipalities of Ontario for group bulk purchases)
rather than from the Contractor. The price available to the
Municipality from L.A.S. is below the Contractor's cost.
The Treasurer has reviewed the funding requirements and concurs
i
with the recommendation. Queries with respect to department needs,
specifications, etc . , should be referred to the Director of Public j
Works .
