THAT Report TR-23-97 be received; and I 2 . THAT staff be authorized to advertise and issue a tender for a grader, as required by the Public Works Department; FORTHWITH. BACKGROUND AND COMMENT: As identified in the 1997 Draft Public Works Capital Budget, page 161, $145, 000 . 00 is allocated for the replacement of a 1989 Champion Grader. I The existing grader is currently out of service and in need of repairs which includes replacement of chains, sprockets, bearings, front axle, and wheel . The total cost of these repairs is estimated to be between $16, 000 to $20, 000 . 00 . In addition, based on the number of hours on the grader, brakes and transmission work would be required in the near future, and are not included in the $20, 000 . 00 estimate. As this machine is to be offered as a trade- in on the new grader, it would be in the Municipality' s best interest to keep the repairs to a minimum. Therefore, an early tender call approval for the new grader is requested FORTHWITH. Part of the tender specifications will be that delivery of the grader will be considered as part of the evaluation criteria in the subsequent award recommendation. Should rental of a grader be required, prior to the new unit being delivered, the cost is approximately $5000 . 00 per month. It is therefore proposed, that only the immediate necessary repairs to the bearings, and replacement of the chains be completed on the existing grader. The estimated cost for these repairs will not exceed $2000 . 00 . Pending Council approval for an early tender call, it is anticipated that the tender will be advertised on March 19, 1997, with tenders closing on April 2, 1997 . A subsequent report with recommendation for an award will be presented for approval by Council .
