Subject: TENDER CL97-5, ASPHALT AND SURFACE TREATMENT PULVERIZING
Recommendations:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and
Administration Committee recommend to Council the following:
1 . THAT Report TR-31-97 be received;
2 . THAT Miller Paving, Markham, Ontario, with a total bid in the I
amount of $13 , 122 .48, being the lowest responsible bidder
meeting all terms, conditions and specifications of Tender j
CL97-5, be awarded the contract for Asphalt and Surface
Treatment Pulverizing, as required by the Department of Public
Works; and
3 . THAT the funds be drawn from the approved 1997 Department of
Public Works Road Maintenance budget FORTHWITH.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENT
Tenders were publicly advertised in local papers, as well as the
Daily Commercial News .

Subsequently, bids were received and tabulated as follows :

The total funds required for Tender CL97-5, Asphalt and Surface
Treatment Pulverizing are included in the Department of Public
Works Road Maintenance budget . The total funds allocated for the
pulverizing contract plus the Prime and Surface Contract is
$275, 000 . 00 . Of this amount, $222, 819 . 37 has been committed for
the surface treatment portion (Tender CL97-6) .
After further review and analysis by Public Works and Purchasing,
it was mutually agreed that the bid from Miller Paving Limited,
Markham, Ontario, be recommended for the contract for Asphalt and
Surface Treatment Pulverizing, as required.
The Treasurer has reviewed the funding requirements and concurs
with the recommendation. Queries with respect to department needs,
specifications, etc. , should be referred to the Director of Public
Works .
The tendered unit prices represent an average seven (70) decrease
over the 1996 contract prices submitted by Hard Rock Paving.
See Schedule "A" attached for a copy of the 1997 schedule listing
the roads requiring Asphalt and Surface Treatment Pulverizing.
The subject firm have previously provided satisfactory service to
the Municipality of Clarington. As the tender stipulates all work
is to be completed by May 30, 1997, a FORTHWITH approval is
requested.
