P-83-78 Planning and Development Committee DATE: October 12, 1978 SUBJECT: Report on proposed sign for Scott's Chicken Villa i 1 . Background: On September 5, 1978 a representative of Scott's Restaurants Company appeared as a delegation before this Committee with the request: that the Sign By-law be amended to permit the erection of a facia sign on their building at King and George Streets in Bowmanville. This matter was referred to staff for a report "to see if the request for a second sign can be accommodated within the existing By-law and if not are , situations like this something to which Council should address itself" . 2. Comments: At present, the subject site contains one ground sign which bears the Scott's Chicken Villa symbol . The Sign By-law would classify this sign i as an identification sign. Since the Sign By-law permits only one iden- tification sign on an interior lot in a commercial zone, the proposed sign would not conform to the provisions of the Sign By-law. We do not recommend a change in the By-law to permit a second sign on this lot for the following reasons: i (a) we do not feel that a second sign is required on a lot with only a 66 foot frontage, I (b) the granting of this request would set a precedent which would probably result in many more requests of this nature. i - 2 - 3. Recommendation: For these reasons, we would recommend that the applicant's request for a second sign on the subject property be refused. Respectfully submitted, Leslie L. Kristof, M.C.I .P.
