REPORT NO.: P-223-79 SUBJECT: Proposed Official Plan Amendment Section 8.4.2.1 of the Durham Regional Official Plan File: 79-45/D R A ('TI!'A(ITTiM On November 27, 1979, staff received the attached request from the Durham Region Planning Department. The basis of their request is a proposed amendment, to Section 8.4.2.1 of the Durham Regional Official Plan, which permit the reclaiming and/or recycling of materials with- in Industrial Areas. COMMENTS: Staff have reviewed the proposed amendment and do not foresee any problems with such a provision. We note that the proposed uses would be subject to all other approved policies related to industrial uses and would not aggravate or create any conflicts with other permitted uses. In fact, such a provision is complementary to industry and conducive to resource conservation, and should, therefore, be encouraged. e'� Y W 2 - RECOMMENDATION: That the Planning and Development Committee recommend to Council the following: 1. That this report be received; and that 2. The Region of Durham be advised that the Town of Newcastle has no objection to the proposed amendment to Section 8.4.2.1 of the Durham Regional Official Plan as identified by amend- ment file number 79-45/D. REPORT: During the Planning Committee meeting held on November 6, 1979, the Committee considered a modification to the Durham Regional Official Plan regarding waste disposal sites. During the discussion related to this issue, the Committee directed staff to prepare an amendment in order to clarify that the reclaiming and/or recycling of material. may -be permitted within Industrial Areas. A copy of the proposed amendment to the Durham Regional official plan is attached. In accordance with the Official Plan Amendment -procedures'as adopted by Regional.
