REPORT TO PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE MEETING OF Sept. 17, 1979
REPORT NO.: 11-160-79
SUBJECT: Correspondence from Newcastle and District Chamber of
BACKGROUND:
Commerce - Regarding the Newcastle Lumber Store.
On August 27, 1979, Council considered the attached letter
from the Newcastle and District Chamber of Commerce in respect of
business development in the former Village of Newcastle. The letter
makes reference to the three businesses wishing to locate in the old
Newcastle Lumber Store.
COMMENT:
Staff have been approached by members of Council in respect
of the possible future use of the lumber store on a number of occasions.
Staff have advised members of Council that the Lumber Store is currently
zoned M2 (Industrial) under the zoning by-law for the former Village of
Newcastle. In order to convert the present building to commercial
uses it is necessary for the site to be rezoned to an appr9priate
commercial zoning category.
- 2 -
Staff note that no rezoning application has been filed.
Staff also note that Council has recently adopted a
consolidated and updated version of the zoning by-law for the former
Village and that copies of that by-law are to be circulated to all
landowners within the village.
RECOMMENDATION:
That the Planning and Development Committee recommend to
Council that the Newcastle and District Chamber of Commerce be
forwarded a copy of this report and be requested to arrange a meeting
with Planning Staff to discuss rezoning procedures in the Town.
Respectfully submitted,
D. N. Smith, M.C.I.T.
DNS/cc Director of Planning.
