BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS:
On September 21 , 1983, the Planning Department received a
* copy of a letter (attached) from the Ministry of Municipal
Affairs and Housing addressed to Crotin Palter, the
solicitors acting for Mr. S. Gujda. The letter indicates
that the draft plan approval of Subdivision 18T-76021 , will
lapse on December 30, 1983. Staff have reviewed the status
of the proposed subdivision and would have no objection to
the approval of a further one year extension of the draft
approval to December 30, 1984.

PLANNING DEPARTMENT
Subject: Lapsing of Draft Approval
File 18T-76021
Municipality: Town of Newcastle
Dear Sir
Draft apc>roval of this plan will lapse on December 30, 1983.
As you mz-y know, it is your responsibility to request
an extension , with reasons , well in advance of the
lapsing r ate.
Please Note: We have recently changed our procedures
for exter_sions to draft approval for plans of subdivisions .
in the Re-gional Municipality of Durham.
In the pa-st, we required you to secure a council
resolutic'-n in support of an extension before we would
grant it. This procedure involved considerable amounts
of time for owners , staff and council, with few concerns
being ra:Lsed. We have therefore tried to simplify the
procedure .
Your request for extension , with reasons , is now to be
submi.ttec directly to this office before the la sing
date, with copies to cne municipality and regional
planning department for information.
The local municipality has been supplied with a list
of draft approved plans and their lapsing dates in
order to undertake an ongoing review. If, for some
reason, council feels and extension is unadvisable,
we have asked them to inform us directly before the
lapsing date. If we do not hear from them, we assume
no objection and will process the extension request.
i
A similar procedure has also been set up with the
regional planning department.
We hope this procedure will reduce the amount of time
spent on extensions; Should there - be any concerns
expressed , we will advise you before the lapsing date.
- 2 -
Your co--operation with this new r)rocedure would be
appreciated . Please remember, that once draft
approval has lapsed, it cannot be reinstated. A
new application would have to be submitted to the
Regional Municipality of Durham.
YOurs truly,
