That Report PD-169-83 be received; and 2. That an exemption be granted by Special Resolution of Council to permit the use of the colour red within 150 feet of an intersection. i i . . .2 j R - L_dW1 REPORT NO. : PD-169-83 Page 2 BACKGROUND: A request has been received for an exemption from the provisions of the Sign By-law to permit the erection of a ground sign in front of John ' s Service Centre, at the inter- section of Regional Road No. 4 (Taunton Road) and Old Scugog Road, Hampton. The proposed ground sign will not exceed the maximum, permitted in the Sign By-law. Section 8(2) (b)(vi ) permits a ground sign of 2.8 metres (30 square feet) or 0.1% of the lot area, whichever is greater and provided that, in no case, shall any sign exceed 100 square feet in area. In this particular situation, the lot has an area of 54,450 square feet (1 .25 acres) , therefore the maximum size sign would be 54.45 square feet in area. The colours used in the proposed sign will be red, white and black, and the Sign By-law prohibits illuminated signs using the colours red, green or amber within 150 feet of an intersection, except by Special Resolution of Council . COMMENTS: The use of the colour red is unlikely to create any I confusion with the red of any traffic lights that maybe erected in the future. Therefore, a resolution would be in order in this particular instance. Respectfully submitted, H.G. -Wigh " Chief Building Official HGW*j i p
