That Report PD-156-82 be received; and 2. That an exemption be granted from Section 4(3)(b) of Sign By-law 76-25, as amended, as requested by Mr. Quinney. BACKGROUND: The Stedman Store in the former Village of Newcastle is located on the north side of King Street approximately 100 feet east of the intersection of Mill and King Streets. On September 9, 1982, Mr. Howard Quinney, the Stedman Dealer in the former Village of Newcastle, applied for a permit to erect a sign on the front of the store. Report No: PD-156-82 .. ./2 The proposed sign is illuminated, uses the colour red, and is to be located within 150 feet of an intersection. Section 4(3)(b) of Sign By-law 76-25 provides that: "No illuminated sign which uses the colours red, green or amber shall be located within 150 feet of a traffic control signal nor within 150 feet of an intersection of 2 or more streets, except by special Resolution of Council . This provision shall not apply to signs located more than 25 feet from any street line." Mr. Quinney has verbally requested a special Resolution of Council as provided in the By-law. COMMENTS: The proposed sign is an illuminated wall sign 2'-0" x 15'-3 1 /2" and is to be mounted across the face of the building. The message area indicates the name "STEDMAN" in red letters on a white background. The intersection of King and Mill Streets is a traffic light controlled intersection. It is unlikely any confusion would occur with the red on the sign and the red traffic light as the sign is mounted flat across the face of the building. It therefore appears appropriate for Council to pass the resolution as requested. Respect tted, T. T. Edwards, M.C.I.P. Director of Planning HGW*TTE*mjc September 17, 1982
