SUBJECT: OPEN SPACE POLICIES

RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and Administration Committee
recommend to Council the following:
1. THAT Report PD-225-86 be received for information.
BACKGROUND:
As the result of the Committee' s consideration, at its meeting of June 16, 1986, of an
application for plan of subdivision which abutted the valley lands of the Farewell Creek
in the Courtice Urban Area, Resolution #GPA-608-86 was approved as follows:
"That Staff review the long term policy relating to ravine and creek areas,
particularly in Urban Areas and submit a report to the General Purpose and
Administration Committee."
COMMENTS:
The Town's Policy with respect to Open Space, and particularly the issue of ravine and
creek areas, was formally expressed by Council through approval of By-law No. 79-69. This
By-law prescribes a policy in respect of parkland dedications pursuant to the provisions
of the Ontario Planning Act. This piece of legislation permits a Municipality to prepare
