DATE: Monday, October 6, 1986
REPORT #: PD-235-86 FILE #: PLN 23.1
W&ECT: COMPUTERIZATION OF TOWN OF NEWCASTLE
ASSESSMENT MAPS
OUR FILE: PLN 23.1
RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and Administration Committee
recommend to Council the following:
I. THAT Report PD-235-86 be received; and
2. THAT Planning Staff be authorized to investigate, through a proposal call , the cost
of computer digitizing the Town of Newcastle Assessment Maps.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS:
With the advancing computerization of more and more municipal data and the Town' s
acquisition of the Geographics Program through MAI , consideration will have to be given
during the 1987 Budget year to the digitizing of the Town of Newcastle Assessment Base
Maps. Digitizing is the process utilized to transfer map information onto a computer
system in order to permit the operation of a Geographic Program which, in turn, permits
the Municipality to, generate by computer, maps containing virtually any municipal data
contained within the computer system.
Given the size of the municipality and the varying complexity of the Assessment Maps, it
would be appropriate, at this time, to initiate a proposal call to establish the cost of
this project in order that it may be included for consideration by Council during the

budget process for 1987. Staff note that the operation of the Geographics
Program, by the Town, can not be initiated until these base maps have been
digitized and accordingly, our Terms of Reference for the proposal will
specify as short a 'turn around time as possible, taking into consideration
the time required for budget review and approval .
