By-Law # MEETING: General Purpose and Administration Committee DATE: Monday, October 17, 1988 REPORT #: PD-206-88 FILE #: 68.26.2 SUEJECT: REQUEST FOR ADULT CROSSING GUARD - NASH ROAD AND VARCOES ROAD, DARLINGTON RECOMMENDATIONS: It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and Adminstration Committee recommend to Council the following. (1) THAT this report be received; and, (2) THAT the requested traffic count be postponed pending completion of area road construction; and, (3) THAT Mr. Gordon Lohnert be advised accordingly. BACKGROUND AND COMMENT: At a regular meeting of Council held on Monday, September 26, 1988, Mr. Gordon Lohnert of 1437 Nash Road, Oshawa, Ontario, L1K lA5 appeared as a delegation requesting the placement of an Adult Crossing Guard at the intersection of Nash Road and Varcoes Road, Darlington. Pursuant to Mr. Lohnerts request, the author of this report attended the site in question on Wednesday, September 28, 1988, in order to observe conditions in the area and undertake a traffic count. It was found that both Nash Road and Varcoes Road are under construction and, although both remain open to traffic, it became readily apparent that the majority of people residing in the area are taking an alternative route and, conceivably, will continue to do so until construction is complete. . 2/ .I--- G.P.A. meeting (cont'd) . . - 2 - October 17, 1988. The above-noted conditions make it impossible to accurately assess traffic flow in the area and it is therefore recommended that the traffic count in question be postponed pending completion of area road construction.
