THAT the minutes of the meeting held on Monday October 19, 1964 be received and adopted. "CARRIED" . III COMlYlUNICATIONS: 1. Strike & Strike: "Please find enclosed copy of letter we have today received from the Municipal Board. You will note that the Board is suggesting that Council should make up its mind whether or not it is going to support sections 5 and 10 to the extent that if they do not support it they will repeal by By-law those particular paragraphs; Depending on their action in this regard the Board indicates that notices of the application to the Board, copies of the by-law and copies of the Explanatory note will have to be sent to the persons concerned with sections e and 9 of the By-law. . If you wish to discuss this matter further with the writer please do not hesitate to get in touch with him." Letter from Ontario Municipal Board - "Thank you for your letter dated October 1st, 1964 and enclosures. If it is Council's intention to withdraw Sections 5 & 10 of By-law 1916 I have been directed to advise that it will be necessary for a by-law to be passed to this effect. In addition it will be necessary for you to comply with the Board's Rules of Proce- dure dated April 26, 1963 in respect to Sections e & 9 (if 10 is withdrawn) of By-law 1916. -e Upon receipt of a duly completed affidavit proving compliance with these directions the Board will give further consideration to your application." "CARRIED" '- . . . . -2- 2. Town of Trenton: ,i. letter was received from the Town of Trenton respecting school costs. Noved by Con. Hooper, seconded by Con. Rundle. THAT the letter from the Town of Trenton dated October 21, 1964 respecting school costs be received and filed. "CnRRIED" 3. Durham County District High School Board: "Your appointments as Trustees on this Board are as follows: (1) L. A. Parker - for 1964-5-6. (2) ,Ilex McGregor - for 1963-4-5. (3) Alan Strike - for 1963-4. Mr. Strike's appointment expires at the end of 1964. The Board would welcome his re-appointment." Moved by Con. Hughes, seconded by Con. Hooper. THAT the letter from the Durham County District High School Board, dated October 22, 1964 respecting the appointment of a school trustee be received and that ~~. ~. H. Strike be re- appointed for a three year term. "CARRIED" 4. Durham County District High School Board: "CORNER STONE L,\YING PORT HOPE VOC,.TION,\L HIGH SCHOOL Tuesday, November 10, 1964 11:00 a.m. Members of Municipal Councils and the High School Board are cordially invited to be present on this occasion." TH,.T the letter from the Durham County District High School Board respecting the opening of the Port Hope Vocational High School be received and filed, and all members of Council attend if possible. "CARRIED" 5. Santa Claus Parade Committee.: "Request for permission to hold a blitz for funds on November 23, 19b4." Moved by Con. Hooper, seconded by Con. Hughes. THAT the Santa Claus Parade Committee be granted permission to hold a blitz in the Town of Bowmanville on November 23, 1964, provided it does not conflict. "CARRIED" . . . . . -3- 6. Stuart R. James: "Today I quest ion Street. would be have discussed with your ~~. Thos. Stewart the of a drain on the north side of my property, 43 Centre ~~. Stewart advised me to write Council so the matter handled through the proper channels. The drain appears to be plugged, as the yards (mine and neigh- bour's) are covered with water pools. James, dated October 30, 1964 be received and referred to the Roads & Streets Committee for consideration and report at the Board of \lorks lileeting. "CARRIED" 7. Robert R. Morris: "The writer has learned after reading The Canadian Statesman under date of October 2eth, 1964 that the Town of Bowmanville will not make the new Public Library building the Centennial project as planned. As a solicitor who has many times utilized the facilities offered by the Town for l'~agistrate I s Court and Division Court in the Town of Bowmanville, may the writer on behalf of him- self and his brothers in law humbly submit to Council as a suitable Centennial project the renovation and extension of the existing Council Room for the growing needs of justice and Council purposes in this area. ~ie are sure that the many hundreds of citizens who have occasion to attend Courts of Law in Bowmanville would carry away with them a fuller and more profound sense of their nation- ality as well as reality of the legislation creating the com- munity in which they live if these facilities were renovated and made more dignified." Moved by Con. Hooper, seconded by Con. Hughes. THAT the letter received from l'ilr. Robert R. TH~T we reconsider Council's recent decision respecting the replacement of angle parking with parallel parking on the west side of Temperance Street from King Street to Queen Street. "C,.RRIED" Moved by Con. Hughes, seconded by Con. Rundle. TH"T Council 's original resolution regarding the removal of angle parking on Temperance Street be amended by inserting provision for angle parking south of the south limit of the lane to Queen Street. , "C"RRIED" The original motion as amended was then presented, voted on, and "C"ltRIED". e.
