MEETING: COUNCIL
DATE: Monday, November 7, 1988
REPORT #: PD-238-88 FILE #: 77.39.2
SUBJECT: PURCHASE OF CENTRAL METER UNIT
RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is respectfully recommended that Council approve the following:
(1) THAT the bid submitted by J.J. MacKay Canada Limited be accepted; and,
(2) THAT funding for the subject purchase be taken from the Parking Lot
Reserve Fund.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENT:
As the Members of Council are no doubt well aware, the present (Universal) central
parking meter unit situated in the Merchants Parking Lot, Church and Division Streets,
must be replaced.
It is estimated that during the last two years alone, the subject unit has cost the Town
approximately $3,500.00 in repairs and lost revenue due to subsequent down time.
It is my understanding that this matter was previously brought froward by David Oakes
with the recommendation that Council consider the installation of individual meters
as an alternative to the unit currently in operation. Such a conversion would cost
between forty-five and fifty-five thousand dollars depending on equipment, an expenditure
difficult to justify in order to police 97 parking spaces.
Based on the foregoing, quotes were requested from the two leading manufacturers of
centrally located ticket-dispensing machines and the bids submitted were as follows:
Curlette Sales Ltd.
Ottawa, Ontario $ 11,372.00
J.J. MacKay Canada Ltd. $ 8,300.00
. 2/
Council (contd) 2 - November 7, 1988
In conclusion, it is respectfully recommended that the bid submitted by J.J. MacKay
Canada Ltd. be accepted and that the purchase be funded from Account #1110-00162-x,
Parking Loot Reserve. The Treasurer has reviewed the funding requirements and concurs
with the recomw-ndation.
Respectful , s muted,
Recommended for presentation to Council
