REPORT TO THE GENERAL PURPOSE AND ADMINISTRATION COMMITTEE MEETING
OF MAY 6, 1985
REPORT NO. : PD-78-85
SUBJECT: BY-LAW TO APPOINT INSPECTORS
RECOMMENDATION:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and
Administration Committee recommend to Council the following:
1 . That Report PD-78-85 be received; and
* 2. That the attached By-law appointing Inspectors be
approved; and
3. That the Clerk issue the required certificates of
appointment; and
4. That Staff arrange for production of, and issuance of
identification cards for all appointed inspectors.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENT:
Pursuant to the requirements of the Building and Plumbing Codes,
the Council of a Municipality is responsible for enforcement of
these Codes within the municipality. To that end, the Council is
also charged with the responsibility of appointing a Chief Building
Official and such inspectors as are necessary for enforcement.

* By-law 76-23, copy attached, appoints a Chief Building Official and
certain inspectors. This latter By-law is, however, out of date
and should be amended. In addition, a review of our records has
not revealed the existence of a by-law formally appointing the
present Plumbing Inspector.
In order to update the appointment By-law to recognize the recent
staff addition and the existing staff complement, Staff have
* prepared the attached By-law amendment and are hereby recommending
its approval to Council .

THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWN OF NEWCASTLE
BY-LAW NUMBER 85-Lo
being a By-law to amend By-law 76-23 of the Town of Newcastle.
WHEREAS the Council of the Corporation of the Town of Newcastle deems
it advisable to amend By-law 76-23.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Council of the Corporation of
the Town of Newcastle enacts as follows:
i. Section 2 of By-law 76-23 is hereby amended by adding thereto
the following words:
"and the Ontario Plumbing Code"
2. Schedule "B" of By-law-76-23 is hereby deleted in its entirety
and replaced with a new Schedule "B" attached hereto as Schedule
0XII.
3. Schedule "C" of By-law 76-23 is-hereby deleted in its entirety
and replaced with a new Schedule "C" attached hereto as Schedule
"X-1".
4. Schedules "X" and "X-l" attached hereto form part of this
by-law.
