That Report PD-168-84 be received; and 2. That the proposed amendments to By-law 76-25 included as Attachment #1 to Staff Report PD-159-84 and Attachment #1 to Staff Report * PD-168-84 be considered for approval by Council at its meeting of October 22, 1984. 1 .. .2 REPORT NO. : PD-168-84 2 g a e r CQ P / I BACKGROUND: At the General Purpose and Administration Committee meeting of September 17, 1984 the Committee considered Staff Report PD-159-84 in respect of a proposed amendment to the Town 's Sign By-law which was initiated by a request from Neon Products Limited for permission to erect a billboard on a property abutting Highway 401 . As a result of the Committee' s consideration, an amendment was proposed which would eliminate the split jurisdiction over signs on lands abutting Provincial highways and affected by Ministry of Transportation and Communication regulations. This however, did not resolve the matter of billboards to the satisfaction of Neon Products, and as a result of the Committee discussion, it was felt that a further amendment would be appropriate to facilitate the erection of billboards within the Town of Newcastle on lands abutting Provincial highways and located beyond the jurisdiction of Ministry of Transportation and Communication regulations. Staff, in consultation with Neon Products Limited, have * prepared a further amendment to By-law 76-25 which would facilitate the request made by Neon Products Limited. Staff note that the Council meeting on October 22, 1984, has been advertised as the date upon which Council will consider the proposed by-law amendment and includes a requirement that those persons wishing to speak to the proposed by-law, make the necessary arrangements to the Clerk on or before October 17, 1984. r Res p f ubmitted, cc: Neon Products Limited rj The Atria 2255 Sheppard Ave. E.
