Bowmanville, Ontarto 1965 Election Results Striking Committee The Inaugural Meeting of Council for 1966 was held in the Council Chambers on the above date at 8:00 p.m. with His Worship Mayor Ivan M. Hobbs in the Chair. Present: Mayor Reeve Deputy Reeve Councillors Ivan M. Hobbs S. Little W. Fice P. Chant J. Bourke K. Nicks E. Rundle Mrs. A. Darch G. Hughes Oke The Clerk reported the results of the Municipal Election held on December 6, 1965. The Rev. A. Kudra addressed Council and led the meeting in prayer. In keeping with previous custom at Inaugural Meetings, former l~yors, M. Elliott and S. Little, addressed Council. Mayor Hobbs presented his inaugural address. Correspondence: 1. Bowmanville Public Library re appointment to Board for three year term. 2. Department of Highways re list of subsidizable items for urban municipalities. 3. Canadian Medic-Alert Foundation re request for grant. 4. Ontario Good Roads Association re 1966 membership fee and notice of one day seminar for Councillors. 5. Board of Transport Commissioners re overhead bridge on Elgin Street. 6. Northumberland-Durham Health Unit re Nursing Homes. 7. Bowmanville Public Library re rental agreement payments. 8. Ontario Water Resources Commission re Lake Ontario Water Quality Survey. Resolution #C-l Moved by Reeve Little, seconded by Con. Chant. THAT the Mayor, Reeve and Deputy Reeve be appointed the Strik- ing Committee to recommend appointments to Committees of Coun- cil and appointments to various Boards. THAT Council adopt the same days for Council and Board of Works regular meetings; being for Council, the first Monday in each month commencing at 8:00 p.m. and the third Monday in each month commencing at 7:3G p.m. and for Board of Works meetings, the last Tuesday of each month commencing at 7:30 p.m. "CARRIED" Resolution #C-3 Moved by Con. Chant, seconded by Con. Rundle. THAT the minutes of the regular meeting of Council, dated December 20, 1965, be approved as printed. "CARRIED" Mr. J. Lander and l~. G. Gilpin appeared on behalf of the Better Development Committee to make representation opposing construction of the proposed St. Mary's Cement Plant. Resolution #C-4 Moved by Con. Oke, seconded by Con. Bourke. THAT the matter of the St. Mary's Cement Company proposed plant on the outskirts of Town be reopened to determine what action can be taken to oppose its construction and that the Planning Board be requested to attend a meeting of Council to hear their views.
