REGULAR ~1EETING October 16, 1967 Bowmanville, Ontario Council lJ!inutes Christmas Street Lighting Hesolution - Education Resolution - Town of Milton Minutes of the regular meeting of Council held in the Town Hall on the above date at 7:30 p.m., with His Worship, Hayor Ivan M. Hobbs, in the Chair. Present: Mayor Deputy Reeve Councillors Ivan}l. Hobbs IV. Fice K. Nicks E. Rundle Mrs. A. Oke G. Hughes M. Prout Absent: Reeve Councillor S. Little J. Bourke Resolution #C-376 Moved by Con. Oke, seconded by Con. Rundle. THAT the minutes of the regular meeting of Council held on October 2, 1967, be approved as printed. "CARRIED" Messrs N. McMechan and Don McGregor appeared as a delegation from the Chamber of Commerce to request the assistance and co~operation of Council to expand the Christmas lighting on Main Street. The Chamber's funds are limited and a grant of $500 was requested which would greatly assist the extension of lighting. Resolution #C-377 Moved by Con. Nicks, seconded by Con. Rundle. THAT a Committee consisting of 2 representatives of Council, 2 from the Ch~lber of Commerce and the Public Utilities Commissioners including the P.U.C. Manager and the Clerk, meet as soon as possible to study a co-operative plan for Christmas lighting. "CARRIED" Mayor Hobbs appointed Deputy Reeve Fice and Councillor M. THAT Council concur with a resolution from the Town of ]cUlton to place a question on the ballot paper with regard to the Province assuming 100% of the cost of education. THAT Public School Board representatives meet with the Clerk on the matter of purchase of a lawn mower and the Clerk report on the meeting to the next Board of Works Committee meeting. "MOTION LOST" Resolution #C-382 Moved by Con. Rundle, seconded by Con. Nicks. THAT representatives from the Public School Board attend the next meeting of the Board of Works Committee to discuss the purchase of a lawn mower. "CARRIED" Resolution #C-383 Moved by Con. Hughes, seconded by Con. Prout. Pine Ridge THAT the request from Pine Ridge School for permission to School - re dump waste at the Town Dump be referred to the Board of Works waste material Committee. Complaint re sale of jewellery Street Light By-law No. 67- 31 - 1st reading "CARRIED" Resolution #C-384 Moved by Con. Prout, seconded by Con. Hughes. THAT advice of the Town Solicitor be obtained on the complaint by A. Hooper of jewellery being sold at house parties. "CARRIED" Resolution #C-385 Moved by Con. Prout, seconded by Con. Hughes. THAT a street light be purchased and installed on Mearns Ave. opposite the Bellman residence at an estimated cost of $102.00. "CARRIED" Resolution #C-386 Moved by Con. Prout, seconded by Con. Oke. THAT leave be granted to introduce By-law No. 67-31, being a by-law to establish the day for the meeting of electors for the nomination of candidates for Council and for the local board or commission and the day for polling, and that the said by-law be now read a first time. Prout, seconded by Con. Oke. Sale of land THAT one halt of an acre of land on Nelson Street be sold to to O.H.C. the Ontario Housing Corporation for $7,000 for the purpose of constructing senior citizen accommodation. "CARRIED" Tax Sale Resolution #C-390 Moved by Con. Hughes, seconded by Con. Oke. THAT approval be granted to the sale to Mr. and Mrs. R. Hayes, interested parties, for all accrued taxes to date~,plus interest and penalties and costs on property registered under Tax Registration No. 3-63. "CARRIED" Resolution #C-391 Moved by Con. Nicks, seconded by Con. Rundle. Encroachment THAT the Clerk arrange for a survey to be made of the land, on Town Land that sewer and water extensions be the responsibility of O.H.C. and the matter of an encroachment by a hedge on Town Land be dealt with. "CARRIED" Opening of Tenders Resolution IC-392 Moved by Con. Rundle, seconded by Deputy Reeve Fice. THAT tenders on the purchase of a 4 Ton Truck be opened. "CARRIED" Acceptance tender on Truck Resolution IC-393 Moved by Con . Prout, seconded by Con. Oke. of THAT the lowest tender of $6,640.20 submitted by Robson Motors be accepted, subject to the tender conforming with the specifications prepared by the Town. "CARRIED" e e - 4 - Abolish Poll Tax Resolution #C-394 Moved by Con. Oke, seconded by Con. Nicks. THAT it be recommended to next year's Council to abolish the poll tax levy. "CARRIED" The Mayor called a Special Meeting of Council to be held at 8:00 p.m. on the 31st day of October, 1967 for the purpose of receiving the Plunkett report on matters relating to the Public Utilities Commission. Sale of Bowmanville High School Resolution #C-395 Moved by Con. Nicks, seconded by Con. Hughes.. THATCouncila.gree to the Reeves and Clerks of municipalities comprising the High School district attending a meeting to be held as soon as possible, with Council, Public School Board and Department of Education representatives on the proposal to sell to inGiustry, the Bowmanville High School.
