Council Minutes Horticultural Society Canadian Pacific Rail way Canadian Centennial Cup Safe- Driving Week A regular meeting of Council took place in the Town Hall on the above date at 7:30 p.m. Present: Ivan M. Hobbs W. Fice J. Bourke K. Nicks E. Rundle Mrs. A. Oke G. Hughes M. Prout lllayor Deputy Reeve Councillors Absent: S. Little Reeve Resolution #C-435 Moved by Deputy Reeve Fice, seconded by Con. Nicks. THAT the minutes of the regular meeting of Council held on November 6, 1967, be approved as printed. "CARRIED" Mr. William Beatty rose to speak to Council on the recent ban on parking in front of his residence on King Street, but as he had heard, there was to be a presentation to Council by the Department of Highways on the proposed reconstruction of Highway No. 2 possibly affecting his property, he wished to defer his complaint until he had seen the presentation. Resolution #C-436 Moved by Con. Hughes, seconded by Con. Prout. THAT advice from the Horticultural Society of their not requiring the $300 grant approved earlier by Council, be received. "CARRIED" Resolution #C-437 Moved by Con. Hughes, seconded by Con. Rundle. THAT no objection be raised to action by the Canadian Pacific Railway to reduce the number of station agents. "CARRIED" Resolution #C-438 Moved by Con. Prout, seconded by Con. Oke. THAT a request for a donation to the Canadian Centennial Cup be received and filed. "CARRIED" Resolution #C-439 Moved by Deputy Reeve Fice, seconded by Con. Nicks. THAT Safe-Driving Week, December 1-7, be proclaimed and notice of such be inserted in the Canadian Statesman. "CARRIED" Election Officers By';'law No. 67-38 - 1st reading 2nd reading 3rd reading e e - 2 - Resolution #C-440 Moved by Con. Rundle, seconded by Con. Oke. THAT appointments of election officers for the December 4th municipal elections as read out by the Clerk be confirmed and that the following rates of remuneration be approved: Deputy Returning Officer - 120.00 Poll Clerk - 16.00 Polling station - 20.00 (each station) "CARRIED" Resolution #C-44l Moved by Con. Hughes, seconded by Con. Prout. THAT leave be granted to introduce By-law No. 6~-38, being a by-law to authorize the sale of land, and that the said by-law be now read a first time. "CARRIED" Resolution #C-442 Moved by Con. Oke, seconded by Con. Hughes. THAT the second reading of By-law No. 67-38, be approved. "CARRIED" Resolution #C-443 Moved by Con. Nick$. seconded by Con. Rundle. THAT the third and final reading of By-law No. 67-38, be approved. "CARRIED" Messrs Smith, Fraser and Collins from the Department of Highways presented to Council a plan depicting the proposed reconstruction and widening of Highway No. 2 from Scugog Street 1.3 miles to the West. A large number of persons interested in the location of the proposed County Road No. 57 were in attendance. Questions asked were: 1. How would school children have access east from Martin Road without travelling considerably further North to the proposed new highway? (Mr. Cuthbertson) 2. What was to happen to the two houses on the south west corner of the intersection of Highway No. 2 and Scugog Street? (Mr. Beatty) 3. Has Council considered an alternate route for County Road 57? Mr. Edmonds, Counties Engineer, stated that the Counties had looked at four locations and after consultation with the Department of Highways had decided upon Martin Road as the most suitable location. Adjournment e e - 3 - Mr. George Vice requested Council to reconsider the whole program and discuss with the Planning Board and interested citizens the location of the proposed County Road 57 and Highway No.2.
